Our Story: Built for Belonging

Calming Tides Therapy was created from a deeply felt need: to build a mental health practice where intersectional LGBTQ+ individuals, couples, and marginalized communities never have to explain or justify their basic humanity.

Too often, traditional mental health spaces ask marginalized clients to educate their therapists or settle for template care that ignores the impact of systemic stress. We wanted to change that.

We built a practice grounded in cultural humility, trauma-informed clinical care, and true lived experience. Our mission is to provide a safe, affirming space where your identity is celebrated as your strength—never treated as a deficit or a diagnosis. Whether you are exploring identity, deepening relationship connections, living with HIV, recovering from addiction, or healing past trauma, you have found your anchor here.

Our Core Values

Lived Experience & Clinical Excellence: Combining rigorous post-graduate clinical training with lived experience as marginalized and intersectional members of the LGBTQ+ community.

Cultural Humility: You are the expert on your life, culture, and lived reality. We enter every session with openness, respect, and a commitment to honoring your unique perspective.

Intersectional Care: Honoring the full richness of who you are, acknowledging how race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, neurodiversity, and socio-economic realities overlap.

Human-First Connection: Humans first, therapists second. Therapy works best when built on genuine trust, warm dialogue, and authentic therapeutic relationships.
