“We cannot heal in spaces that require us to leave parts of ourselves at the door. Therapy is where your whole story is honored.”
Healing Through Connection, Humor, & Cultural Humility
With over a decade of clinical experience, I created Calming Tides Therapy out of a deeply felt need: to build a mental health practice where intersectional LGBTQ+ individuals, couples, and marginalized communities never have to explain or justify their basic humanity.
Too often, traditional mental health spaces ask marginalized clients to educate their therapists or settle for template care that ignores systemic stress. My goal is to change that. I bring an anti-oppressive, trauma-informed, and non-judgmental approach to therapy, working collaboratively with you and your unique story to understand how trauma impacts your physical, emotional, social, and psychological well-being.
Lived Experience & Community Commitment
As an intersectional member of the LGBTQ+, Arabic, and Latinx communities, I bring my own lived experiences directly into my clinical work. My background spans clinical practice, group facilitation, community development, and research—including dedicated research focused on lessening the impacts of HIV status on the immigration process for queer male Latino newcomers.
Beyond individual and couples therapy, I regularly facilitate affirming process groups to help marginalized community members connect, heal, and find support in shared spaces.
I am deeply passionate about social justice and committed to challenging systemic oppression in all its forms.Areas of Clinical Focus
I specialize in working with individuals, couples, refugees, newcomers, and racialized/intersectional communities across California, Florida, and Ontario:
LGBTQ+ Identity & Sexual Health: Navigating coming out, identity integration, gender affirmation, sex, intimacy, and relationship navigation.
Relationships & Couples Therapy: Affirming, evidence-based care for couples and diverse relational dynamics looking to deepen connection and resolve conflict.
Trauma, Anxiety & Depression: Specialized trauma-informed care (CCTP) to help you heal past wounds, manage systemic stress, and regulate your nervous system.
HIV/AIDS & Chronic Health: Compassionate, stigma-free support for individuals living with or affected by HIV/AIDS.
Substance Use & Recovery: Non-judgmental, harm-reduction care focused on exploring your relationship with substances and building sustainable coping strategies.
Evidence-Based Modalities
I tailor therapeutic interventions to your specific goals, drawing from proven clinical frameworks:
Internal Family Systems (IFS): Compassionate "parts work" to help you heal and integrate different aspects of yourself.
Gottman Method Couples Therapy: Structured, research-backed tools to improve communication, resolve conflict, and rebuild intimacy.
Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT): Attachment-based work helping individuals and partners build secure emotional bonds.
